Easter Sunday Service – 12th April 2020

“Christ is risen! He is risen indeed!”

Opening Scripture

But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,
the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep.
For since death came through a man,
the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man.
For as in Adam all die,
so in Christ all will be made alive.

1 Corinthians 15:20-22 – NIV

Songs:

The greatest day in history, death is beaten, you have rescued me.
Sing it out “Jesus is alive!”
The empty cross and the empty grave, life eternal, you have won the day. Shout it out: Jesus is alive! He’s alive!

And oh happy day, happy day, you washed my sin away. Oh happy day, happy day, I’ll never be the same. Forever I am changed.

When I stand in that place, free at last meeting face to face. I am yours, Jesus you are mine.
Endless joy, perfect peace, earthly pain finally will cease. Celebrate! Jesus is alive! He’s alive!

Oh what a glorious day, what a glorious way that you have saved me.
And oh what a glorious day, what a glorious name, you have saved me!

Thank you for the cross Lord
Thank you for the price you paid.
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love you came and gave amazing grace.

Thank you for this love Lord.
Thank you for the nail pierced hands.
Washed me in your cleansing flow
Now all I know, your forgiveness and embrace.

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown you now with many crowns
You reign victorious.
High and lifted up
Jesus Son of God
The Darling of heaven crucified.
Worthy is the Lamb
Worthy is the Lamb.

Ideas for Prayer

On this Easter Sunday let’s remember the persecuted Church for whom the celebration of Easter would be illegal this Sunday.

Let us continue to pray for our Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, in his recovery from Covid-19, as we continue to hold before God all those who are suffering from this virus and the familes and friends of those who have died or are critically ill.

Let us continue to pray for the NHS and all keyworkers in the UK and other nations who are facing extra pressure at this time.

Let’s pray that although the Churches of the UK and elsewhere cannot meet this Easter, the message of Easter will still ring loud and true across the internet and via all possible streams of communication.

Reading and Sermon

Come set Your rule and reign
In our hearts again
Increase in us we pray
Unveil why we’re made
Come set our hearts ablaze with hope
Like wildfire in our very souls
Holy Spirit come invade us now
We are Your Church
And we need Your power
In us

We seek Your kingdom first
We hunger and we thirst
Refuse to waste our lives
For You’re our joy and prize
To see the captive hearts released
The hurt, the sick, the poor at peace
We lay down our lives for Heaven’s cause
We are Your church
And we pray revive
This earth (We’re prayin’ for revival)

Build Your kingdom here
Let the darkness fear
Show Your mighty hand
Heal our streets and land
Set Your church on fire
Win this nation back
Change the atmosphere
Build Your kingdom here
We pray

Unleash Your kingdom’s power
Reaching the near and far
No force of hell can stop
Your beauty changing hearts
You made us for much more than this
Awake the kingdom seed in us
Fill us with the strength and love of Christ
We are Your church
Oh, and we are the hope
On earth

Blessing (from Hebrews 13:20-21 – NIV)

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
